I found the best way to save $$$ on travel expenses in Rome was to book apartment accommodation instead of hotels. They are a lot cheaper and convenient.

Yes! One of the posters here is right. To save some dollars (or euros) when traveling in Rome, you can sacrifice a stay at a hotel and rent a vacation apartment. On longer stays, its practically a bargain, especially if you are a group. There are plenty of apartments in Rome. Like in this list here: http://www.110apartments.com/new/en/search/italy/?_o=town

Of course if you're a just a couple, or by yourself, you can even save more by staying at a hostel.

All the money saved can be used in shopping. haha ;-)
