« Tour Guide: Walking Rome | Main | Greening Las Vegas »

July 17, 2008

I'm a native of Appleton.

Appleton has the largest Flag Day parade in the nation. In addition to Joe McCarthy and Houdini, author Edna Ferber, CNN host Greta Van Sustren, and actor Willem Dafoe.

As far as dining, I'd recommend Koreana.

In my sushi experiences, it has surpassed every sushi restaurant I've eaten at before or since (in Appleton, the Mid West or anywhere in America) in every way (except maybe atmosphere -- its set in a strip mall but it is very pleasant inside). The Sashimi Bi Bim Bahb salad is a dish that I haven't seen anything close to from another establishment (purple rice base, fresh chopped veggies with sashimi on top served with a tangy sauce).

I've driven an hour & a half just for a meal. Now being on the west coast it is but a memory but I definitely hope to return some day. My next trip through the state will have to include a detour. Crazy? Yes, but so worth it.
