Will you be traveling with only carry-on luggage the whole time? I'd love to know how a family of 4 travels for a year with airline restrictions being what they are. What is your packing list?

Each of us will have one checked bag (a rolling duffle) and a backpack that we will use as carry on baggage. Starting our trip in the car as we drive cross country has provided us with an opportunity to scale back on what we originally packed, since to start out we definitely crammed too much stuff in that one bag each. We will be lightening our load considerably so that the bags can be easily managed by the kids and will meet all of the airline weight restrictions. -- Carol & Rainer Jenss

Recv'd our first National Geo Travel magazine and saw your family's pic and trip info. How exciting! We would love to do this, but How do you teach the kids? Do you homeschool? When you return do they get in to the next grade?
