This is great news. Dominica is a perfectly beautiful island and even seeing a cruise ship there makes me cringe a little bit. I spent a month on Dominica in 1998 and though eco-tourism is helping this poorest of islands, it's nice to know that it won't be spoiled like a lot of other destinations. Thanks for the update!

It should be noted that there is a strong environmental organization in Dominica. The organization is the Waitukubuli Ecological Foundation (WEF) and is headed by DR. Joseph Williams. It is this organization which has initiated and coordinates the movement against the oil refinery. There are many stakeholder groups, including the DHTA that form a coalition (headed by WEF) in opposition to the oil refinery.
Though the Prime Minister has stated that he has put the oil refinery plans on hold, seasoned campaigners are skeptical. Many reports from the Venezuela indicate that the deal is done. The campaign therefore continues. Any support from the friends of the environment is welcomed.
The Prime Minister is Roosevelt Skerrit

Thanks for catching our typo! The post is now correct.
