Love is in the Airport
Hard to find an upside to missing your connecting flight due to airline delays? How about seeing it as an opportunity for a love connection instead? The Washington Post's Travel Log reports on a study commissioned by AXE body spray that researched the top airports in the country for travelers to find love. Not surprisingly, these airports were the ones which have the most delays, and a corresponding high ratio of bars and restaurants in which to mingle.
According to the study, travelers are "using airports to connect with more than just flights. Nearly one in ten adults has personally gone out or knows someone who has gone out with someone they met at the airport or during a flight. The survey also showed people are taking advantage of their flight time: One-third of adults would rather sit next to someone they find attractive or interesting than have an entire row to themselves."
It seems to us that if you're worried your sky-dating plane might be delayed, it's best to book the trip out of one of these top five love hubs. (Click here for the complete list.)
1. Philadelphia Int'l (PHL)
2. Newark (EWR)
3. John F Kennedy (JFK)
4. Washington Dulles Int'l (IAD)
5. La Guardia Int'l (LGA)

sadly, I am not among the 10%. And, with the way the planes are packed these days, I would actually rather have the space than sit next to an attractive guy. Call me crazy :-)

Feb. 14, 2008, will be the fifth anniversary of my husband and I meeting at the Delta baggage carousel at Boston's Logan Airport, written about here http://www.boston.com/travel/articles/2007/01/07/raising_awareness_kids_and_a_glass_to_five_years/. Since then we've moved from Boston to NC, traveled to many countries together, and started a travel blog at www.placeswegopeoplewesee.com. I'm all for airport meetings -- but you have to act fast!
