A Look at the Best Travel Stuff in 2007
This has been a big year for travel, and for IT. We relaunched the blog in June with a sustainability and authenticity focus, and have loved bringing you travel news, destination guides, and fun tidbits from our magazine's writers, editors, and readers in the time since. And since Traveler worked hard bring you the World's Islands Rated in our year-end issue, we decided to root through the best of the Web's year-end travel offerings as a resource to our readers.
Hotels
- Trip Advisor travelers chose the Ten Most Luxurious Hotels. Hotel Chatter got the scoop on where to find WiFi on the road, while Forbes previewed "Ten Must-Visit European Hotels."
Reading
- Travel books reviewed by World Hum, Chicago Tribune, and the Times Online's "50 Best Travel Features of 2007."
Websites
- CNN, the Times, and Transitions Abroad, and Travel-rants all highlight the best of the Web.
Geekery
- Pierce Mattie and CBS.com checked out hot gadgets and Vagabondish took a hilarious look at useless gadgets including the Pillowig and the wearable sleeping bag.
Video
- Neat site Travercial scoured the Web and posts the top ten streaming travel videos of the year on their homepage.
- Matt Brisbane continues to be a YouTube traveling sensation, with his "Where the hell is Matt?" video topping 8.5 million views.
Miscellany
- To celebrate the end of its first year in print, chic and sleek Monocle magazine created a special "Travel Top 50" issue (the best transportation hub, boutique airline, fail-safe gift). You'll have to go to the newsstand to read it, but they've summed it up in this podcast. Its Quality of Life Index, an international list of neat products, is also worth a look.
- Tim Leffel's Cheapest Destinations presents "Great World Music from 2007."
- The International Herald Tribune taught us how to track trends with fabsearch.com.
- Check out the "World's Best Traveled Teddy Bears," collected by the Times Online.
The Crystal Ball
- Looking forward, Frommer's offers its Top Destinations for 2008, and there's the New York Times' much maligned up-and-coming destinations in '08 (Didn't you know that "Vietnam and Cambodia are so 2007?").
- Atlanta Journal-Constitution's photo gallery: "Where Will U.S. Travelers Go in 2008?"
- Be sure to check out the Chicago Tribune's tribute to the Most Walkable U.S. Cities.
As we look forward to 2008 - we wonder - where are you planning to go next? Wherever you're headed, we wish you happy travels in the New Year!

Hi - thanks so much for the mention in your year-end posting. I noticed that the link for the 10-best from Travercial was to the background scroll. The correct link for the 10 best world videos is now:
http://www.travercial.com/Best-World-2007.html
This page also provides further details on the videos and who created them.
The 2007 Top 10 World have been replaced on the homepage by the 2007 Top 10 for the USA. During the first week of the year the USA videos will also have their own special page.
Thank you again!
Happy New Year.
